Welcome to Girl Precarious

Girl Precarious is a collective blog dedicated to providing a platform for those affected by mental illness with content created by the mentally ill, for the mentally ill.

“The mentally ill frighten and embarrass us. And so we marginalize the people who most need our acceptance. What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, more unashamed conversation.” – Glenn Close

Girl Precarious seeks to steer the conversation on mental health in America in a direction that provides resources and representation written by, and for the mentally ill.

Shelby Finger, Founder of Girl Precarious

“The human species thinks in metaphors and learns through stories.”

“My Generalized Anxiety Disorder is not invisible or transparent as all. When my husband walks through the door, and sees that the house has been cleaned 5 times over within 12 hours due to my compulsive behavior, while I have yet to change out of the same clothes I’ve been wearing for 3 days, it’s safe to say my illness is very visible.”

In addition to our goal to pay contributors for their work by Summer of 2020, we have big plans and we need your help. For more information on where your donation is going, e-mail us at GirlPrecarious@gmail.com.

Girl Precarious has long term goals to become a nonprofit organization that provides grants and resources to the mentally ill navigating life after a severe crisis. More information on this will be available in early 2020.
